Remember the Goggle Pink UFO of just a few weeks ago.

RickRick Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05147795123873989623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4174828569039941516.post-62984613383291515002012-10-22T19:27:00.345-04:002012-10-22T19:27:00.345-04:00That object looks like 'Spaceship One' to ...That object looks like 'Spaceship One' to me; or at least one of the sub-orbital spaceplanes developed by Scaled Composites for the Virgin Galactic 'Space Tourism' program.

If you look at the design of those vehicles, the object in these images could easily be the 'Spaceship One' prototype, or possibly one of the 'Spaceship Two' production vehicles, which I believe are still in flight testing.

The atmospheric re-entry process for these vehicles involves a 'feathered configuration'; where the entire stabilizer/rudder section folds upwards at 90º, allowing the craft to right itself from any angle, and drop down through the atmosphere at safe speeds. After this, the stabilizer folds back into flight configuration and the plane glides back to earth.

One of the photos here looks a lot like one of those planes testing it's feathered/re-entry configuration, and the others look like the plane in flight configuration.

I could be wrong, but I would be tempted to file this one as an 'IFO'.MrAdamohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02797850453928634906noreply@blogger.com
